The bible clearly shows that there are different kinds of baptisms.
Therefore, leaving the first principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and faith toward God.
Of the doctrine of BAPTISMS….
Hebrews 6:1-2.
The word baptism appeared here in the plural, indicating more than one type of baptism.
Before the coming of John the Baptist, the Jews practised different kinds of ceremonial washings as required by the law.
Which was a figure of the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience.
Which stood only in meats and drinks, and DIVERS WASHINGS, and carnal ordinances imposed on them until the time of the reformation.
Hebrews 9:9-10.
And the Lord said unto Moses, Go unto the people, sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them WASH their clothes.
Exodus 19:10.
And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons into the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and WASH them with water.
Exodus 40:12.
These washings are not baptism, as John practiced and as the church practices today. They were for the sanctification of the people whenever they met with God or came to the tabernacle.
The other kinds of baptisms are:
JOHN’S BAPTISM.
BAPTISM OF THE HOLY GHOST.
