WATER BAPTISM CLASS

We have shown that water baptism is one of the sacraments handed down to the church by the Lord Jesus and explained its significance.
It is important to note that a sacrament, i.e., a physical ceremony that has spiritual significance, significantly impacts our lives.

Firstly, through water baptism, we experience a release in our spirits.
Through water baptism, all our ties with the world are completely severed. This was the experience of the Israelites when they came out of slavery in Egypt. Paul, writing to the Corinthian church, said;
Moreover, brethren, I would not say you should be ignorant of how all our fathers were under the cloud and passed through the sea.
And we were all baptised unto Moses in the CLOUD and the SEA.
1 Corinthians 10:1 – 2.

Baptism into Moses in the cloud refers to the baptism into Christ by the Holy Spirit. That is the new birth.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit precedes baptism by immersion into water, just as baptism into the cloud was before baptism in the sea (Water baptism).
Water baptism marks our final separation from the world.

When the Israelites were baptised in the cloud, it did not eternally separate them from the Egyptians, who were a type of the world. The Egyptians were still in pursuit of them despite the pillar of cloud. It was their baptism in the sea that severed them completely from Egypt. Moses told them;
And Moses said unto the people, fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will show to you today: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen today, ye shall see them again no more forever.
Exodus 14:13.

Water baptism clearly shows that Jesus is our Lord and Master, signifying our commitment to Him and our departure from worldly allegiances.

Confessing our faith through baptism strengthens it. It is a public declaration that we belong to Jesus, and if you’re hesitant to express this openly, baptism is essential. Faith in Jesus transforms our identity, shaping our past, present, and future along with our sense of belonging.

Keeping your faith private can hinder its growth, while baptism serves as an act of faith that establishes a foundation for your Christian life.

Additionally, baptism offers a great opportunity for evangelism. Many who don’t usually attend church will likely come to a baptism. If they are unfamiliar with its significance, use this chance to share the gospel. Just as you go under the water and rise again, Jesus experienced death and emerged victorious, and through Him, our sins are forgiven and we are reconciled with God.
